What are your favourite songs of all time? On his new album, Stories, Elvis Blue does his rendition of some of his all-time favourite songs, with a few originals from the pen of this awarded songwriter thrown in for good measure. Both Afrikaans and English fans of the ever versatile “gentleman of South African music” will be pleased with a creative mix of well-known covers, such as Lady in Red, The Living Years and Desperado along with some new original material including the first single off the album, “Die Hartklop van ‘n Pa”. Cleverly, the album name is a cognate, a word having the same linguistic derivation in more than one language, reflecting what fans can expect from this album.
This project has been a long time coming, says Elvis Blue: “I have been wanting to record these songs for some time now, as well as develop a show around them. Many of them were tracked live with piano and vocal and we tried to keep these recordings and arrangements very simple and as natural as possible because I believe the original versions of these songs will always be the best versions and no one will ever or should ever try to match them. The songs should simply be enjoyed and this is my best attempt at doing that with a few favourite musicians alongside me. I love singing these timeless songs and feel very thankful to the tremendous artists who wrote them so magnificently.”
Elvis’s first English album in three years is set to once again be a confirmation of the world-class quality and creativity that fans have come to expect from him over the last 9 years.
