PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Just released from the base stockade, recruit Roland Bozz (Colin Farrell) joins a platoon of young soldiers preparing to ship out to Vietnam. Bozz’s independence and outright defiance draws fire from his own men as well as commanding officers. But when the platoon is sent to Tigerland, a hellish training ground that is the last stop before Vietnam, Bozz’s leadership and loyalty bring his men together--triggering extraordinary consequences. Special Features: • Commentary by director Joel Schumacher • The Real Tigerland • Joel Schumacher: Journey to Tigerland • Ross Klavan: Ode to Tigerland • Featurette • Casting session with Colin Farrell • Theatrical trailer • TV spot: One Man • TV spot: Compelling Review AMAZON.CO.UK REVIEW Director Joel Schumacher had been going through something of a rocky patch when he opted to make Tigerland. A comparably low-budget war movie, the director went a bit back to basics with the movie, and his approach was rewarded with a strong end product. He owes a good chunk of Tigerland’s success, though, to Colin Farrell. Here he is in his breakthrough role as Private Bozz, a defiant young soldier who joins up with a platoon that’s soon to head to Vietnam. We follow Bozz and his colleagues through their final days of training, as they face and challenge the horrors that are to come. It’s an intense film, one that doesn’t have the impact of some of the finest films to deal with the Vietnam conflict, but still has plenty to say. And Schumacher pitches Tigerland about right, shooting in a documentary style that the Blu-ray transfer enhances exceptionally well. It might not be the most obvious candidate for a high definition transfer, but it works surprisingly well here. It’s the amplification of imperfection that gives the film added impact. There’s an argument, too, that Farrell has never been better than he is in Tigerland, and it certainly ranks as one of his best films. And as it turns out, it’s one of Joel Schumacher’s best, too. A strong war movie. --Jon Foster
