First time with his sweet left foot, the skipper coolly found the corner of the net and the Whites were in front. A dominant first half gave way to a see-saw second. Villa's Jack Grealish, tormentor-in-chief, creating and spurning opportunities in equal measure, before escaping a red card. Fulham held firm, despite themselves being reduced to ten men with 20 minutes remaining. When the full-time whistle sounded, there was relief mixed with sheer joy at one end of Wembley, as the Whites claimed their deserved return to the top flight after a four-year absence.
