Wembley s first West Yorkshire final for 28 years produced a Tetley s Challenge Cup final to remember. After going through the agony of six consecutive final defeats since winning in 1999, Leeds Rhinos at last shed their losing habit with a 23-10 victory over Castleford Tigers. It was a case of what might have been for the Tigers. With 15 minutes to go they were within touching distance of their near neighbours until Lance Todd Trophy winner Ryan Hall scored his second try of the match to halt Castleford s comeback. Leeds winger Tom Briscoe touched down for the game s first score, before Daryl Clark responded to keep it tight early on. However, when Super League s most prolific try-scorer Danny McGuire and then Hall both went over, Leeds had a commanding 16-4 half-time lead. The Tigers, looking for their first Challenge Cup final triumph since 1986, roared back after the break to set up a nervous last quarter. Michael Shenton s break down the left allowed Oliver Holmes to make it a one-score game, but Hall s devastating hand-off produced a second try to secure the trophy for Leeds. When Kevin Sinfield's conversion went over after rebounding off both uprights you knew it was going to be Leeds s day. McGuire s drop-goal sealed the victory, but Castleford had certainly made them work all the way for it.
